About Dissent, Book 1: Acceptance

A new adult dystopian sci-fi/fantasy

What can one man do against an all-powerful, tyrannical government? The answer begins with acceptance.

BACK OF BOOK DESCRIPTION

In the meritocracy of Helion, your Merithon rank is everything. It determines what you can buy, where you can live, what jobs you can hold, and what partners you’re allowed. Oculars, devices that monitor the individual’s every move and the moves of those around them, are mandated by law. Those who can’t wear them due to physical defects are ranked “Peculiars,” a class just above “Useless.”

Zenith DeClension is a Peculiar trapped in a life he sees no hope of changing, until the deaths of three of the most important figures in his life lead him to accept an offer that puts him in open conflict with the system and all those who control it. Forced to go on the run, he finds support in the most unlikely places even as he battles the inner demon that threatens to consume him and the system that seeks to destroy him.

His only hope: the Relic he once rejected. His only purpose: help those in need. But to help humanity, he must stand against an oppressive regime that will do anything to stop him.

About the Author

Author John R Kyle

Although his family met his material needs while growing up, John R. Kyle always felt something was missing. He searched for answers in books and newspapers. He attended college at an his state’s flagship university, became an AAU member, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from a Tier 1 law school. He received publication for an article on international cyber warfare and espionage. John’s great expectations did not come to fruition. Depression set in and John turned to a variety of outlets hoping to escape his fear of failure and self loathing. Eventually, he found the missing pieces of his life and, with them, a burning desire to help others and spur intellectual curiosity. Dissent: Acceptance is where that work begins.
